A little more subtle, this is the palest pink and utterly divine.

These wines are easy to get on with, light in tannin, high in fruit character.

34. Pinotage, Virgin Earth, South Africa, 2004 £18.50
From one of the most spectacular wine farms in the Cape, just a few miles from the Atlantic this is silky smooth with lots of ripe and spicy plum fruit.

35. Valpolicella Ripasso, Tomassi, Italy, 2004 £29.00
Only in rare vintage years is the Valpolicella Classico re-fermented on the warm dried grapes from which the Amarone has been pressed to make a truly great wine – all rich and spicy black pepper, raisins and sweet cherries.

A cult classic – fresh, vibrant, citrus fruit mingling with a rich, creamy nuttiness.
